The Danakil Depression is located in the northern part of the great rife valley in Ethiopia. It is here where the widest part of the rift in Ethiopia is located. This region is a lowland region with semi-desert and desert climate. Geologically the Danakil area is the most unstable one in the country having many places of active volcano. Day 1: Fly to Mekelle, city tour in the city and overnight in a hotel. Day 2: After breakfast drive to Hamed Ela through rocky terrain. O/n camping. Day 3: After early breakfast drive to Dalol about 20km. in the north…
The rift valley is a funnel shaped depression that opens up in the northeast in to Gulf of Aden and red Sea and crosses Ethiopia from northeast, Afar area to southwest, lower Omo area. It is formed as a result of the volcanic movement of tertiary period. During that period there was extensive lava outpouring followed by a great uplifting movement of earth and the crust of the earth was pushed up to 3000m. Eventually, the uplift movement and the removal of magma from beneath the crust weakened the central part of the arch. This resulted in cracks and rift…
Bale Mountains are formed from lava outpouring of the Miocene and Oligocene geological periods. The lavas covered the underlying rock formations. This area has varied climate as a result of variation in altitude. It gains 8 months of rainfall, from March to October. The highland part gets on average 1200 mm. rain per annum. The temperature ranges from –15 to +260c. This park has five vegetation zones among which Adaba-Dodolla area is the southwest part/region. This place is well known for trekkers. The major attractions in this region are topographical scenery, mountain vegetation dominated by Juniperous procera, coniferous podocarpus, Haginia…

Simien Mountains constitute one of the massifs of Ethiopia that include several peaks above 4000meters high in altitude. Ras Dashen Mountain the highest in Ethiopia and the 4th highest in Africa is located here in this massif. This mountainous area physio-graphically is the result of the tertiary period of Cenozoic era volcanic eruption’s lava outpouring. This park is established in 1975 and registered as world heritage in 1978 by UNESCO for its superlative natural phenomena, exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance. It contains the most important and significant natural habitat for in-situ conservation of biological diversity including those threatened species…
